It's been a great weekend. You've visited with friends and family, had a great dinner at your favorite restaurant, and even played a couple rounds of golf. But now it's back to the office. You swing open the door and punch in your security code but then you realize that things are not normal. There's a different smell and the air seems a little damp. Then you notice the water in the hall and the wet stain on the front office carpet.
As a Plumber you have done your time and got your trade certificate. It wasn't given to you because you had to earn it. You now have the right to make a fair and honest living from it despite the down turn in the economic climate.
Some bathtub valves do not take washers and therefore you cannot repair them. If you have a washerless shut-off valve that leaks it will need to be replaced. You will need: a propane torch, solder, flux, sandcloth, a wire fitting brush, a small section of copper pipe (most likely 3/4" I.D.), a slip coupling (again probably 3/4") and a shut-off valve. I would highly recommend installing a ball valve with a drain on it as opposed to a washer style valve. If you purchase a decent quality ball valve it will last a very long time.
Trustworthy. The best way to find a Trustworthy plumber is to ask a close friend, family, or a good neighbour for recommendations. They're the best people to ask because they've experienced the services first-hand and they will never lie to you about it. This works in the same way they won't let you hire someone who has worked for them and delivered bad service.
Now to prevent clogs from happening, you would need a drain cover in order to stop the clogging. However bear in mind that sometimes the best idea is to simply call your Local plumber and have them come out to take care of the clog. It is simply the more financially responsible as well as reasonable. Plumbers have equipment that the standard homeowner doesn't in order to clear the drains quickly and get them flowing again. Just remember that you have to be specific as your plumber is not a mind reader and cannot diagnose on vague information.
Punctuality. It is the most important trait of a good plumber. Waiting for a longer time to have your pipes repaired can mean more damage to your property. A plumber who understands clients values time and make it a point to arrive as soon as possible.
Hourly fees are another thing you want to check out before you hire a plumber. Call around and get a few estimates for a job. Ascertain if the plumber is willing to sign a quote and give you a price warranty before he begins working. You should also find out if the plumber will require you travel time to and from your job and how they will compute that time and prove it to you. Giving you a precise price may be challenging, but any plumber who can't give you a comprehensive explanation of how you will be billed with an estimate of the cost should be avoided.
